TrainingNo other organization serves the
training needs of the piping industry
like the United Association. For
over a century, the UA has been training
the most highly-qualified workers in the
United States and Canada.
Over the past several decades, the
United Association's training programs
have produced a stable, skilled
workforce responsible for building and
maintaining piping systems in the
various industrial and residential
facilities that make up the North
American landscape.
No one can match the commitment or
investment. The UA spends over $100
million annually on training programs
efforts involving approximately 100,000
journeymen and apprentices in over 400
local training facilities at any given
time.
In addition to our five-year
apprenticeship programs, Sprinkler
Fitters Local 692
offers continuing education opportunity
that includes journeymen training and
certification, as well as an associate’s
degree program.
Journeypersons
When the five-year apprenticeship is completed, journeymen
sprinkler fitters attend upgrade classes on their own time
for advanced training in fire safety, basic first aid, CPR/AED
training and OSHA 500C. This ongoing training enables
journeymen sprinkler fitters to improve their skills and
stay abreast of developments and code changes. There are
also constant update certifications on the latest tools,
techniques and equipment.
Local 692 also offers ASSE Backflow Testing and Repair
courses to members as well as apprentices. These courses are
sanctioned by the American Association of Sanitation
Engineers (A.S.S.E.).
Outside Training Affiliations
Local 692 cooperates with Drexel University of Philadelphia
in offering college credits towards a degree in Construction
Management. By taking advanced courses through the union and
at the university, it is possible for Local 692 members to
earn a Bachelor of Science degree and prepare themselves for
careers as union officials, business owners or instructors.
In addition, Local 692 is also part of the United
Association of pipe trade professionals, an organization
that provides the most advanced training in the industry for
training coordinators and instructors.
Our state-of-the-art training facility and staff have been
used by the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and the
Philadelphia Fire Department, Philadelphia Licenses and
Inspections, Hospital Fire Marshal's Association. Employees
of these departments have attended classes on inspection and
compliance code reviews, along with sprinkler system
classes, fire pump tests and pressure reducing valves.
Local 692 also works closely with the Philadelphia Fire
Department and the Philadelphia Department of Licenses and
Inspections to better equip and educate building inspectors
and contractors in keeping with the latest in fire
suppression technologies.
